National Conservation Scholarships

The Izaak Walton League of America is accepting applications for a pair of $2,500 scholarships to college
juniors or seniors who are pursing degrees in a conservation- or environmental-related field. The deadline for applying is April 1, 2007. The IWLA National Conservation Scholarship is made possible with support from its members and a generous grant from the IWLA Endowment.

Applicants should be enrolled in programs that may include, but are not limited to: environmental science/engineering/education; natural resource management; forestry; wildlife; fisheries; parks and recreation; range management; soils; and other related sciences such as ecology, biology (conservation/field/marine), geology, hydrology, and zoology, including mammalogy, ornithology, and entomology.

Awards will be made in two categories:

Students may only apply in one category.

Applicants will be evaluated based upon their knowledge of conservation/environmental issues and their commitment as a future conservation leader. Scholarship recipients will be announced and recognized at this year’s IWLA national convention in July in Big Sky, Montana. Scholarships will be awarded directly through the college at the beginning of the fall semester/quarter.

The 2006 National Conservation Scholarship winners were Lauren Allen, a geology and environmental science major at the Miami University of Ohio, and Brad Dekkers, who is studying recreation and outdoor
education at the University of Minnesota in Duluth.
