Heritage Days (Check Range Closures)

Heritage Days

Each year, Heritage Montgomery hosts the FREE Heritage Days Celebration on the last weekend of June. Sponsored by HM since 2004, this countywide festival offers visitors the opportunity to discover venues from Silver Spring to Poolesville, Bethesda to Clarksburg – and everywhere in between. Heritage Days is the perfect chance to enjoy many small sites that are not regularly open to the public. Learn about the history of dairy farming, railroads, and trolleys; African American communities, astronomy, local arts & culture, and outdoor recreation. Many venues offer live music, games and crafts for children, and refreshments.

Heritage Days 2017!
Saturday, June 24 & Sunday, June 25
noon to 4pm

Please join us to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Heritage Days Weekend!

Heritage Days features 40 parks, museums, and historic sites throughout Montgomery County open with FREE admission. Activities for all ages include history exhibits & programs, walking tours, children’s games & crafts, live music, & FUN!

This year, many sites are celebrating heritage food traditions with unique cooking demonstrations, presentations by acclaimed chefs, farm & garden displays, and food trucks.

Keep an eye on this space in the coming weeks for more details about this year’s programs. Our 2017 Heritage Days brochure will be available in May. This extensive guide includes the locations, contact info, and program details for each of our 40 Heritage Day attractions so that you can begin planning your weekend!

Summer Biathlon Practice (7:30am @ R&P)

The Summer Biathlon team meets semi-monthly at the Rifle & Pistol Range to train for a tough combination of physical conditioning, self control, and marksmanship.

ELIGIBILITY:  Summer Biathlon is open to all B-C -IWLA members 12 years and older, as well as, sponsored guests.

EVENT:  Running distances at B-CC IWLA are set at 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) split into 5 loops or 3 -- one mile loops. Currently, a single course at each length has been laid out. A short course for those working up to the other distances has been laid out as well. The regulation shooting distance is 50 meters, however, targets are also set at 25 meters for development of the shooting art.  There are four shooting stops on the 5km course and two stops on the 3 mile course. Shooting stops alternate between prone (lying down) and off-hand (standing) positions. Five rounds are fired at each stop for a total of 20 shots on the 5km course and 10 shots on the 3 mile course. An equal number of shots are fired from each shooting position.

SCORING:  Scoring is based on a time to complete basis. A penalty of either one (1) minute or a 50-100 meter penalty lap will be assessed for each shot missed.

EQUIPMENT:  .22 caliber biathlon rifles are the standard; however, any magazine fed, .22 caliber rifle with either bolt or lever action is permitted. Only standard velocity .22 caliber target ammunition is allowed.
